Girls Inc

Bill Newman and his wife Linda have been active volunteers with Girls Inc of the Greater Capital Region since 2016, inspired to join by their own daughters.  While they are fortunate to have 2 daughters who are thriving, they believe that every young girl deserves that chance.  Together, Bill and Linda have brought innovative ideas and generous support to the organization which encourages girls to be strong, smart and bold. They’ve adopted families during the holidays, encouraged support for a new Teen Room, introduced new prospective donors to Girls Inc, and are working to grow the organization’s Major Gifts portfolio, all while continuing to pledge their own significant monetary support.

In 2018, Bill presented the organization with a $15,000 check at their annual scholarship award night, called Girls Night Out.  Bill received the grant as one of Northwestern Mutual’s 2018 Community Service Award winners.

News of the check presentation was published in the local newspapers:

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Childhood cancer is a cause that’s important to Bill, the Atrium Financial Group and many of their colleagues at Northwestern Mutual. It’s the leading cause of death by disease in kids ages 1 to 19 in the United States. Atrium Financial Group participates in fundraising events throughout the year, including the Annual Lemon Tournament, and hold their own lemonade stands in the community to help raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
